A new opportunity in Summer 2008 for increasing the Diversity in Engineering!
Description
What is engineering? Engineering is an exciting field where math and science are used to help people and make the world a better place. Want to learn more? Cal Poly’s Women’s and Multicultural Engineering Programs will host approximately 80 high school students during the week of July 14th, 2008 to give them a taste of life at Cal Poly’s College of Engineering!
Students will attend class sessions and experience several concentrations of engineering which may include: Aerospace, Biomedical & General, Civil & Environmental, Computer, Computer Science & Software, Electrical, Industrial & Manufacturing, Materials, Mechanical, Architectural, and Bio Resource & Agricultural Engineering.
Mission
The mission of the Cal Poly College of Engineering is "to educate students for careers of service, leadership and distinction in engineering or other fields by using a participatory, learn by doing, "hands-on" laboratory, project, and design centered approach."
We hope to encourage diverse students to pursue math, science, and engineering careers. Students from a variety of backgrounds can introduce more diversified ideas and can help keep the United States on the edge of technological innovation.
Classes
All classes will be taught by Cal Poly Professors and assisted by current Cal Poly students. The workshop attendees will be placed in groups of no more than twenty. The groups will then rotate to different engineering topics in each lesson.
Additional workshops will be included each day, covering topics such as the college admissions process, SAT preparation, guest speakers, and more!
Transportation
We will be offering bus transportation to students every day at no extra cost. The buses will leave in the morning from North & South San Luis Obispo County locations and arrive again each evening. More information will follow upon enrollment in the camp.
Tuition/ Scholarships
We have been fortunate to receive enough funding from corporate sponsors to offer the entire week of workshops for just $200 per student! Scholarships will be available to any student for $50 - $200. We would like to thank our Camp Sponsors.
